Stage 19
Besancon-Besancon Time Trial 55 km
Analysis
Today's time trial was very interesting. Armstrong hammered
everyone including Ullrich showing that he is the Boss and is riding
much stronger than last year. Basso lost time but not as much
as he has in past time trials. Trying to defend second was an
extra incentive but not enough because he lost second place to
Kloden as was expected that he might. That was the only change
in GC for the first nine places. The race for the Yellow
Jersey has been settled. All Lance has to do to win his sixth
Tour is make it to Paris tomorrow.
For the White Jersey, Voeckler lost enough time in the time trial to
drop to third with both Karpets and Casar passing him. The
race for the White Jersey has also been settled.
The big surprise of the day had to be Julich with him turning the
best time trial I have seen him ride in years. I guess Coach
Riis has been good for Bobby as well as Basso and Hamilton.
That shows consistency in coaching.
Tomorrow
With the races for the Yellow Jersey, White Jersey, and KOM settled,
the only title which might still be contested is the Points Title.
So, the 165 km stage from Montereau to Paris will be faught over the
Points Title and the last stage win. It should be obvious that
Lance has been going for stage wins and could well decide to try to
win the last stage in the Tour which will be his sixth Tour win.
Therefore, the Yellow Jersey could be in the mix towards the end
tomorrow and possibly on break. It should be a fun stage.
Come back on Monday for the Post Tour Analysis.
